Creative Soul by Denise Nicole
I am Denise Nicole Francis.
I am a Professional Imagination Dispenser.
Basically I make cool stuff for a living. I'm into most things designed, anything creative, and everything dunked in good ethical reason. I believe in chaos to balance order. I believe in truth as a vehicle for freedom. I believe in kindness as the path for change. I love pluots, mangos, plums, guava, and strawberries. I love to shop and sell on etsy.com
Trying to get super excited to start the concentrated part of my MFA graphic design thesis! I made this thesis notebook so that I can stay as organized as possible for the next 10 weeks … hope it works! :-)
I got most of the supplies from my local Sam Flax Art Supply Store. It all seemed like a mess, but I think I got it all together.
The Mess:

I’m pretty happy with the out come:

Here is the inside filled with all sorts of pockets and storage:

The rubber band can hold things in like pens and sticky notes:

There is a pocket for my sketchbook:

The sketchbook also has some pockets:

The notebook holds many different compartments:

And even a spot for words of encouragement:

I added decorative blank pages for sketching and pasting keepsakes:

Thanks for checking it out :-)

This is a project I did in one of my classes at school. This project was difficult. It was my first time using flash, and I’m not even sure if I could manage to pull this off again.
Remember Nickelodeon is a website that allows people the experience to reminisce about their favorite cartoon while growing up. It mainly focuses on The Nickelodeon network during the 90s but also touches on decades before and after. It is a family website and is a way for various generations to bond and understand the change of times.

Muhsinah - Here But Gone
This project is from my most recent poster design class. We had to choose an event, submerge ourselves with research and create a poster series for the event.
Recently I have been listening to an artist named Muhsinah [MOO-SEE-NAH], whose music has definitely taken my normal listening to another level.
She is hip-hop, she is soul, she is r&b, and she is electronic, punk rock … perfect music for gemini’s like me! Its clear that she is into things that are designed, and has a hipster/ modern, fashion forward, fashion sense. Most importantly … she’s just cool.
Currently she just released an EP that she composed and produced herself called “Gone.” She also launched a project that encourages fans to bring her to their city. She says that if her fans can get 100 people in a room, she will go to that city and do a show. And so the title of this poster was born “Here but Gone.” Here because she is willing to “come here” to a city near you, and “Gone” because of the name of the album.
I created a fictitious tour called “Here but Gone.”
The artwork represents the idea of a silhouette … that something is gone, or once was here, its is filled with doodles that represent her style, the instruments that she plays, and are also inspired by lyrics of “Chalk outlines” and such which can be found on the EP. All of the doodling is similar to defaced property or how someone may scratch “____enter name___ was here” into a school desk or bathroom stall. Overall the artwork shows in many ways just how Muhsinah is here, but gone.
The poster design also included a very detailed creative brief.
Hopefully, she will come to Atlanta so that i can finally see her live!
Hidden Discovery
This is a poster that I did in my poster design class this past quarter. I actually made up the subject matter. We were supposed to crete a poster that deals with some sort of social issue. It could be political or for an event, but our research must address a social issue.
The poster was also to reference and interesting use of typography.
I chose to focus on learning types. Many forget to recognize that people have different learning types. Some people learn form listening, some people learn from watching, and some people learn from doing, etc. This poster honors the people that learn by doing (which often gets left out in professions an teaching institutions especially for creative people).
Typography is something that most people don’t understand. It wasn’t until recently when typography began to become popular (partially through the increase in popularity of letterpress printing) that people in general began to take notice of the detail that goes into it. Graphic designers, and advertisers are taught typography, but if you exist in a different creative industry, you are lucky if you figure it out on your own.
This poster represents a fictitious scavenger hunt competition put on by the Smithsonian Museum. Photographers are to explore the city and find typography (letters and fonts) in creative spaces of the urban environment. The event is called “Hidden Discovery,” because the photographers can discover typography through their passion of photography.
